The Vascular Sonographer performs diagnostic ultrasound imaging studies in the vascular lab, ensuring accurate and timely procedures according to established guidelines. This role involves communicating with patients, documenting information, and maintaining equipment for high-quality patient care.
Responsibilities
- Perform ultrasound procedures and examinations according to established department guidelines, including arterial and venous studies, Transcranial Doppler, and carotid imaging.
- Clearly communicate and explain exam procedures to patients and family members to ensure understanding and consent.
- Assess patient's medical and vascular status by taking a detailed history before examinations.
- Assemble patient charts, enter information into PACS and EMR systems, and record imaging studies for review and interpretation.
- Complete accurate and timely patient billing for procedures performed.
- Participate in the development of new diagnostic testing procedures and evaluate new equipment for potential purchase.
- Educate residents and other medical or technical staff on technical aspects, indications, and limitations of vascular ultrasound.
- Practice according to safety and infection control policies, including universal precautions, hazardous waste disposal, and equipment disinfection.
- Provide service excellence to customers by delivering timely, high-quality care in a courteous and respectful manner.
- Incorporate quality assessment into daily work by assisting in data collection for performance improvement programs and recommending changes to increase efficiency.
Requirements
- Graduate of an approved vascular ultrasound program
- Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) by ARDMS or Registered Vascular Specialist (RVS) through CCI (active status)
- Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
Qualifications
- Completion of Sonography program
- One year of ultrasound imaging experience preferred.
