About This Role

Operate and maintain the central steam generating plant at Clarks Summit State Hospital, ensuring the continuous supply of heat and hot water to the hospital complex. This role involves performing operational repairs and utilizing various controls to ensure proper boiler operations.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and control the operation of the central steam generating plant
• Perform operational repairs on plant equipment
• Utilize electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic controls to adjust boiler operations
• Observe and note readings on gauges and meters
• Detect danger signals in operations and make proper adjustments and repairs
• Direct lower-level workers to test water and determine necessary treatment and chemicals
• Aid in the maintenance of grounds, including operating groundskeeping equipment and performing seasonal work

Requirements

• One year experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1 (Commonwealth or equivalent)
• OR one year of semi-skilled work experience in utility plant systems operation, maintenance, or repair (industrial, commercial, institutional)
• OR equivalent combination of experience and training including six months of semi-skilled work experience as described above
• Possession of an active Class C motor vehicle license
• PA residency requirement
• Ability to perform essential job functions

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Utility Plant Operator 1, or one year of semi-skilled work experience in the operation, maintenance, or repair of industrial, commercial, or institutional utility plant systems and related equipment, or an equivalent combination including six months of semi-skilled work experience.
