About This Role

This role involves conducting clinical assessments and delivering therapy to substance-dependent inmates at SCI Waymart. The specialist will facilitate the development of individualized treatment plans and promote cognitive and behavioral changes to support successful reentry into the community.

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level professional duties focused on the rehabilitation of substance-dependent inmates
  • Conduct initial assessments and interviews to establish preliminary programming recommendations
  • Facilitate the development of individualized treatment and recovery plans
  • Deliver individual and group therapy
  • Coordinate self-help programs
  • Maintain meticulous patient records
  • Serve as a vital member of the multidisciplinary treatment team
  • Promote cognitive and behavioral changes in inmates that will support their successful reentry into the community

Requirements

  • One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and certification by the PA Chemical Abuse Certification Board as a "Certified Addictions Counselor"; OR
  • One year of experience as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); OR
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work setting and a bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences; OR
  • A master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work; OR
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences.
  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
  • Meet PA residency requirement
  • Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Qualifications

  • Master's degree with major course work in addictions science, psychology or social work OR Bachelor's degree that includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences
  • One year of para-professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services or one year professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services or one year as a Corrections Counselor or Social Worker.
