Summer Pharmacy Intern

About This Role

The Summer Pharmacy Intern will learn to provide excellent patient care by assisting the pharmacist and pharmacy team, processing prescriptions, and delivering a delightful customer experience in a retail pharmacy setting.

Responsibilities

• Engage customers and patients, offering assistance with products and services, and resolving issues to ensure a positive customer experience.
• Model and share customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits.
• Learn from store and pharmacy team members, field leadership, and customers/patients.
• Assist in the practice of pharmacy under pharmacist supervision, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
• Perform duties as assigned by the pharmacist for entering, third party processing, filling, and dispensing prescriptions.
• Assist pharmacists in delivering patient care and services within state scope of practice for pharmacy interns (e.g., patient counseling, health services).
• Report prescription errors to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies regarding errors and Quality Improvement.
• Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing.
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash.
• Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist.
• Assist and support the Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities (ordering, unpacking, checking, storing shipments).
• Maintain knowledge of Company asset protection techniques and file claims for warehouse discrepancies.
• Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked, clean, neat, and orderly.
• Complete required training and maintain knowledge in healthcare and pharmacy.

Requirements

• Enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program
• Fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English
• Willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in a school of Pharmacy program.

Nice to Have

• Six months of experience in a retail environment
• Prior work experience with Walgreens
• Good math skills for accurate prescription filling
