About This Role

This Staff Accountant role focuses on accounts payable and fixed assets, ensuring accurate financial operations for Atlantic Shores Retirement Community. The position supports smooth daily operations, proper recording of capital expenditures, and compliance with GAAP.

Responsibilities

  • Process and review vendor invoices, employee reimbursements, and payments.
  • Manage weekly check runs, ACH/wire payments, vendor records, AP reconciliations, and annual 1099 reporting.
  • Maintain the fixed asset subledger, including additions, disposals, transfers, and construction in progress (CIP) tracking.
  • Ensure proper capitalization, calculate monthly depreciation/amortization, and reconcile fixed assets to the general ledger.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, and financial schedules; support month-end and year-end close, audits, and periodic asset inventories.
  • Uphold internal controls and regulatory requirements, and contribute to process improvements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance plus 2-4 years of accounting experience; OR 8 years of accounting experience with exposure to accounts payable and fixed assets
  • Experience with ERP and accounting systems
  • Solid understanding of the budgeting process
  • Working knowledge of GAAP, particularly related to expense recognition and fixed assets
  • Strong Excel skills (formulas, lookups, pivot tables preferred)
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Ability to manage deadlines, prioritize tasks, and work independently
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting/Finance or 8 years of accounting experience with accounts payable and fixed assets exposure.
  • 2-4 years of accounting experience (with a Bachelor's degree), or 8 years of accounting experience with accounts payable and fixed assets exposure.

Nice to Have

  • NetSuite experience
  • Experience with construction in progress or capital project accounting
  • Experience in nonprofit, healthcare, real estate, or senior living environments
  • CPA or CPA eligible
