Service Occupations Teacher - Warehouse Operations/Material Handling

About This Role

Teach vocational classes in warehouse operations and material handling to inmate students at a correctional facility. This role involves assessing abilities, providing hands-on instruction, and managing classroom behavior.

Responsibilities

• Assess inmates’ abilities to determine program suitability and appropriate curriculum placement
• Adjust instructional materials to meet student needs
• Provide both classroom and hands-on shop instruction in warehouse operations and material handling
• Assign and evaluate homework
• Create and administer tests
• Provide final evaluations for each student
• Monitor inmate behavior and set classroom rules and procedures
• Address disruptive behavior by taking appropriate corrective action and documenting actions
• Independently select effective teaching methods
• Make necessary curriculum adjustments
• Contribute recommendations for departmental procedures, policies, and curriculum development

Requirements

• High school graduation
• Two years wage earning experience beyond completed apprenticeship period in Warehouse Operations/Materiel Handling OR three years wage earning experience in Warehouse Operations/Materiel Handling if no apprenticeship period
• Possession of or eligibility for a current Pennsylvania Department of Education Vocational Certificate 1 or 2, Vocational Intern Certificate, or Emergency Certificate for Warehouse Operations/Materiel Handling
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
• Meet PA residency requirement
• Ability to perform essential job functions
• Pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements

Qualifications

• High school graduation
• At least 3 years wage earning experience in warehouse operations/material handling
