About This Role

This Senior Virtualization Infrastructure Engineer will lead and collaborate with a team of virtualization and network engineers to research, test, and implement new VMware features. The role involves developing scripts, automating deployments, providing performance monitoring, and offering Tier III support for critical system issues.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and work alongside Virtualization Engineer(s) and Network Engineer(s)
  • Research, explore, and test new virtualization features and functionality offered by VMware
  • Collaborate with team members to develop and test implementations of new features and functions
  • Assist in escalating critical issues as needed
  • Develop scripts and queries to validate functionality, security, and performance metrics of all systems
  • Develop automated procedures to deploy virtualization infrastructure with minimal intervention
  • Provide performance monitoring, preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and resolution of system issues
  • Produce and present documentation of standard operating procedures related to virtualization products and solutions
  • Provide Tier III support for advanced problems using expert-level troubleshooting

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience working with virtualization technologies such as VMware
  • Experience in PowerShell scripting
  • Excellent knowledge about VMware management tools (vCenter, vRealize Operations, VMware Configuration Manager)
  • Knowledge in conducting performance analysis for ESX host and guests (CPU, Memory, I/O utilization)
  • Demonstrated experience in a Systems Administration role (Microsoft, Linux or VMware)
  • Strong understanding of Internet/IP related technologies (routing, switching, sub-netting)
  • Understanding of core ISP technologies such as DNS, SMTP, HTTP/S
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Qualifications

  • An Associate of Applied Science in Computer Information Technology and Systems Management preferred. A Bachelor degree in a technical discipline or qualifying experience preferred.
  • 6+ years of experience working with virtualization technologies such as VMware

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Linux system management
  • Backup and backup related technology experience, with EMC Networker or CommVault being preferred
  • Experience with Windows 2008/2012 Active Directory environments
  • Experience with Sharepoint 2007 or higher and Exchange 2010 or higher
  • Experience working with SAN technologies (iSCSI, Fiber Channel, FCoIP)
  • Experience with load balancing technologies such as KEMP
  • Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle
  • Microsoft MCP (MCSA or Higher)
  • Cisco Certifications (CCENT or above)
  • Certification in Linux
  • Certification in other virtualization technologies (Citrix and/or Hyper-V)
  • Cloud based Technologies
