About This Role

The RN will use clinical judgment to diagnose and treat human responses to health issues, assessing, planning, providing, and evaluating nursing care for patients in a Medical/Surgical Intensive Care unit. This role involves coordinating care activities with other healthcare disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform accurate multi-system assessments, including biophysical, psychosocial, environmental, self-care, education needs, and discharge planning needs
  • Identify deviations from normal on routine lab diagnostic tests and reassess patients throughout hospitalization
  • Perform complete discharge assessment
  • Develop an individual nursing plan of care sensitive to the developmental needs of the patient
  • Coordinate patient care activities and discharge planning with other hospital and clinic departments and community agencies
  • Develop patient teaching plans and document on care plan or teaching plan
  • Appropriately delegate patient care activities based on patient's condition and scope of practice of other healthcare providers
  • Initiate appropriate measures based on protocol for the management of medical and/or surgical patients
  • Accurately document care in the EMR and perform all necessary procedures correctly
  • Accurately calculate and administer medications, and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations
