About This Role

The Registered Nurse (RN) II is a professional caregiver responsible for a group of patients, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with the healthcare team to maintain professional nursing practice standards in the clinical emergency setting. This role involves comprehensive patient assessment, care plan formulation and implementation, and patient/family education.

Responsibilities

  • Perform ongoing systematic assessment/data collection, focusing on physiologic, psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and cognitive status, nutrition, pain, patient/family education, family involvement, and patient advocacy
  • Formulate a goal-directed plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team
  • Implement care in a thorough, skillful, consistent, and continuous manner
  • Establish priorities for patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources
  • Identify and meet patient/family learning needs
  • Demonstrate awareness of and sensitivity to patient/family rights, age-specific needs, cultural and ethical beliefs
  • Provide/coordinate care for patients/patient populations
  • Establish effective working relationships with members of the health care team, patients, and families
  • Delegate appropriately and coordinate duties of health care team members
  • Evaluate effectiveness of care given by health care team members
  • Utilize effective communication methods and skills, following lines of authority
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and apply safety principles identified within the institution
  • Perform efficiently in emergency patient care situations following established protocols
  • Demonstrate responsibility and accountability for own professional practice
  • Participate regularly in staff development activities for unit and department personnel
  • Demonstrate knowledge of legal issues, including patient confidentiality and risk management
  • Participate in unit and Department Performance Improvement activities
  • Provide competent Emergency nursing care for all ages, acuities, and conditions
  • Document patient care and unit activities in a timely, accurate, and concise manner
  • Maintain all required licenses, certifications, and professional development/continuing education requirements

Requirements

  • Proficiency in emergency responses such as resuscitation/codes, hazmat response, and emergency childbirth
  • Proficient in the use of computers in documentation, tracking, conveying information
  • Ability to navigate in a windows environment, utilizing a mouse and ability to learn electronic medical record system application
