The Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Cardio-thoracic Intensive Care Unit (PCTU) provides exemplary, family-centered nursing care for infants, children, adolescents, and adults with congenital and acquired heart disease in a technology-intensive environment. This role involves performing complex physiological patient assessments and working in close partnership with cardiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. The PCTU specializes in the medical and surgical care of patients from state, regional, national, and international referrals.
Responsibilities
- Care for patients in a technology intensive environment including ECMO, CRRT and VAD's
- Perform complex physiologic patient assessments in a high intensity environment
- Provide individual support and education to families and patients throughout their intensive care unit admission
- Practice in close partnership with cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, and fellows
- Manage patients with congenital and acquired heart disease with rapidly changing status
Requirements
- Current Michigan Registered Nurse License
- 12-24 months of current PICU, NICU or Childrens or adult ED RN experience
- PALS certification (or within six months of hire)
Qualifications
- BSN preferred
- 12-24 months of current PICU, NICU or Childrens or adult ED RN experience
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of and experience with the congenital heart patient population
- BSN
- ACLS
- Demonstrated excellent communication and problem solving skills
- Demonstrated strong collaborative skills
- Demonstrated skill with and knowledge of the principals of Patient and Family Centered Care
