About This Role

This role involves providing family-centered nursing care in a medical-surgical/neuro unit, utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care. The Nurse will also supervise and coordinate care provided by other staff while ensuring adherence to hospital policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Practice family-centered nursing according to policies and Nurse Practice Act
  • Serve as Charge Nurse when assigned
  • Supervise, plan, evaluate, and coordinate patient care provided by other licensed and non-licensed staff
  • Utilize the nursing process to assess the patient, plan individualized care, identify expected outcomes, and implement and evaluate nursing interventions
  • Provide direct patient care according to unit specific competencies
  • Perform therapeutic procedures and assist with diagnostic procedures
  • Administer medications, including controlled substances, by all routes
  • Administer blood and blood products
  • Respond appropriately to emergency patient situations, including basic life support and cardiac/respiratory arrest management
  • Start IVs and perform activities of daily living support for patients
  • Provide patient and family education by planning, coordinating, and delegating educational needs
  • Maintain accurate and complete medical records using correct documentation tools and procedures
  • Transcribe physician orders and evaluate/finalize patient care records
  • Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team
  • Participate in hourly rounds and adhere to all patient safety goals and Standards of Performance

Requirements

  • Current Alabama RN license or current Multi-State RN License in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) for Alabama

Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
