Deliver specialized nursing care and medical treatment to developmentally and intellectually disabled individuals, many of whom are medically fragile. This role involves independently carrying out nursing care plans and collaborating with an interdisciplinary team to support individuals in achieving their maximum potential.
Responsibilities
- Perform specialized nursing and medical treatment
- Deliver care to developmentally and intellectually disabled individuals, many medically fragile
- Carry out nursing care plans based on diagnoses and pertinent medical information
- Set up an environment to assist individuals in obtaining maximum level of functioning and/or recovery
- Administer medication
- Participate in interdisciplinary team process
- Assist in coordinating care for individuals
- Work closely with medical doctors, psychologist, social worker, recreational therapist, dietician, and other professionals
Requirements
- Knowledge of professional principles, practices, and theory of nursing and its application
- Knowledge of laws, rules, and regulations governing the provision of nursing care
- Knowledge of medications and the physiological effects of those medications
- Ability to guide and counsel subordinate staff and provide feedback and advice/counsel to nursing staff on care rendered to patients
- Ability to provide patient and family education on disease processes, treatment, and self-care
- Ability to demonstrate patience in dealing with patients, clients, and families
