Registered Nurse

About This Role

The Registered Nurse I, under the leadership of the department Manager, provides comfort measures and care to oncology patients and actively participates in data collection. This role involves developing and modifying patient care plans, administering medications, and educating patients and families on treatments and recovery.

Responsibilities

• Conduct an assessment of a patient’s condition (physical, emotional, age, etc.) and document findings
• Develop and modify patient care plans in conjunction with medical notes and other team members
• Render professional nursing care, including administration of medicine and drugs
• Monitor IVs, blood, and EKG rhythms; perform venipuncture and insert intravenous catheters
• Prepare necessary equipment and instruments and assist the physician during examination and treatment
• Participate in patient and family education regarding treatments, procedures, and nursing care plans
• Meet with patients and their families to help them overcome emotional problems associated with their health care condition
• Make regular rounds to assigned patients, observing and evaluating symptoms and reactions to treatments and medications
• Maintain records and charts of patients and report pertinent information regarding the patient’s condition
• Participate in Quality Assurance studies and discharge planning activities
• Serve as a clinical leader, implementing nursing concepts and assisting in directing and teaching student nurses and other personnel
• Remain current on innovations and new procedures in oncology/chemotherapy
• Assume responsibility for safety, infection control, and performance improvement

Requirements

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
• Current state license as a Registered Nurse in good standing with the state’s Department of Professional Credentialing
• Current certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS)
• Certification in chemotherapy administration
• Certification in immunotherapy administration

Qualifications

• Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from an accredited school of nursing
• Up to one year of work-related experience, or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience
