Serve as a Police Officer at UNC Hospital, ensuring the safety and security of patients, staff, visitors, and property through law enforcement duties, emergency response, and community policing.
Responsibilities
- Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to emergency situations and alarms, participating as part of the Emergency Response Team.
- Mediate and resolve conflicts or disturbances using de-escalation techniques and assist with mental health patient custody issues.
- Protect and serve hospital staff, patients, and visitors through law enforcement and crime prevention, patrolling campuses and investigating violations.
- Enter incident reports into the Police-Pak system, investigate criminal incidents, apprehend and arrest criminals, and submit necessary paperwork.
- Patrol assigned areas to detect and deter criminal activity, document security hazards, escort personnel, and provide after-hours access.
- Maintain familiarity with departmental and hospital policies, federal and NC Criminal Statutes, and understand the Use of Force Policy.
- Proactively manage specific assigned areas of responsibility including security sensitive area management, light surveys, and special events coordination.
- Build positive relationships with hospital staff, patients, and visitors to enhance their sense of security and well-being.
- Conduct parking surveys, enforce parking regulations, write citations, and initiate towing of vehicles as required.
Requirements
- General North Carolina Criminal Justice Certification
- Successful completion of Basic Law Enforcement Training in North Carolina
- Valid North Carolina Driver's license
