Pharmacy Technician / Pharm Tech Apprenticeship

About This Role

This role will assist pharmacists in providing patient-centric care, utilizing pharmacy systems to process prescriptions and ensuring a delightful customer experience. As an apprentice, you will participate in a training program to become a PTCB Certified Pharmacy Technician.

Responsibilities

• Assist the pharmacist, under direct supervision, in the practice of pharmacy, in accordance with state, federal, and company policy
• Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions
• Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services
• Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience
• Perform duties including utilizing pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information, ensuring information is entered correctly, and filling prescriptions
• Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist on duty and adhere to Company policies and procedures
• Strictly adhere to the Walgreen Co. policy regarding Good Faith Dispensing
• Register all related sales on assigned cash register, collect and handle cash as required, and assist customers in locating products
• Handle telephone calls that do not require personal attention of the pharmacist, including those to physicians
• Process (corrects and resubmits) manual claims for third party program prescription services
• Assist and support Pharmacy Department on inventory management activities
• Assist pharmacist in administering clinical services, including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples
• Assist Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community
• Ensure the Pharmacy Department is stocked with adequate supplies, clean, neat and orderly
• Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated PTCB training program and/or state required certification/registration

Requirements

• Must be fluent in reading, writing, and speaking English (Except in Puerto Rico)
• Requires willingness to work flexible schedule, including evening and weekend hours

Nice to Have

• Six months of experience in a retail environment
• Prior work experience with Walgreens
• Good math skills to fill prescriptions accurately, including counting, measuring and weighing medications
• Good computer skills
• Knowledge of store inventory control
• PTCB certification
