The Speech Language Pathologist works with Mercy Health to prevent, assess, diagnose, and treat speech, language, social communication, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in children and adults, performing patient evaluations and developing treatment plans. This role focuses on providing high-quality healthcare to communities, particularly within a pediatric outpatient setting.
Responsibilities
- Review physician referral, patient’s condition, and medical history to determine speech and language therapy treatment needs.
- Perform and document patient evaluation, re-evaluation and develop treatment and discharge plans.
- Plan and administer medically prescribed speech language pathology treatments to patients based upon physician prescription and evaluation data.
- Instruct and/or train patient and family/caregiver in treatment procedures to continue at home.
- Modify treatment goals and plan of care as appropriate, communicating with other health team members and participating in patient care conferences.
- Instruct, motivate, and assist patient and family to perform various speech activities.
- Manage patient cases, including communication and coordination of care with the treatment team.
- Precept in the direction and evaluation of clinical experience/internship of students from participating colleges or universities.
- Orient, instruct and direct the work activities of Clinical Fellowship Year, aides, students and volunteers
- Attend and participate in scheduled meetings and in-services, providing in-services to department staff to share specialization of knowledge and continuing education.
Requirements
- Licensed as a Speech Language Pathologist in the state of current practice
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in an equivalent setting (preferred)
Nice to Have
- 2 years of experience in an equivalent setting
- Certificate of Clinical Competence Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP)
- BLS Basic Life Support (at hire for RSFH; within 30 days for BSMH)
- Demonstrates appropriate application of age specific standards, policies and procedures and guidelines in caring for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients
- General computer skills
- Analytical abilities to evaluate patient condition, capabilities and progress
- Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with co-workers, physicians, patients and families
- Ability to work well with all levels of patients, the public and other health care professionals
