About This Role

The Patient Visit Specialist I - Oncology plays a crucial role in ensuring a positive experience for patients and guests at the Cancer Center by proactively coordinating visit registration and providing personalized attention for scheduling, referrals, and follow-up.

Responsibilities

  • Perform insurance verification and secure authorization for Cancer Center services
  • Interview patients and gather information for accurate and timely registration and insurance verification
  • Utilize multiple system applications for scheduling, order management, pre-registration, and insurance verification
  • Verify insurance coverage using Real Time Eligibility system for accurate financial responsibility and claims submission
  • Manage administrator duties in systems like RTLS, WebXchange, Momentum, and The IHA Call Center tool
  • Ensure efficient visit check-in by evaluating schedules and contacting patients as necessary
  • Provide optimal customer service, resolve issues, and assist guests with special requests and itinerary
  • Determine appropriate payment required at the point of registration
  • Respond to patient questions regarding scheduled services, registration, eligibility, and payment requirements
  • Schedule and coordinate surgery for gynecologic oncology patients
  • Schedule and coordinate office and infusion appointments, treatment teaching, port placements, referrals, and various testing

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience in a medical or physician office or comparable healthcare environment
  • Proficient in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including electronic medical records, Microsoft Word/Excel/Outlook/Teams
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following systems: Aria, RTLS, WebDennis, WebXchange, IHA Call Center tool, Epic and CMS
  • Understanding of prevailing regulatory and 3rd party requirements (MSP, authorization requirements, medical necessity screening)
  • Knowledge of medical billing and medical terminology
  • Excellent written, verbal and face-to-face communication skills
  • Proficient/knowledgeable in patient care procedures and organizational policies

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Two years of experience in a medical or physician office or comparable healthcare environment.

  • Course work in insurance/billing, medical practice education or seminars
