About This Role

Assist in the examination and treatment of patients by tracking information, documenting medical records, administering medications, and providing patient education under the supervision of clinical staff and providers.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and escort patients and guests to examination rooms courteously
  • Determine and document the reason for the visit, assessing if patient information requires higher level follow up
  • Perform initial response screening following approved protocols; obtain information for EMR to update patient history
  • Obtain and accurately document patient vital signs in EMR, including pulse, temperature, blood pressure, height, weight, and BMI
  • Directly enter medication, laboratory, and radiology orders into the electronic medical record
  • Perform diagnostic tests as directed by the healthcare provider, operating equipment for routine tests
  • Perform basic Gaps in Care
  • Perform TB testing (if credentialed)
  • Track and inform patients of laboratory/diagnostic test results as directed and communicate provider instructions
  • Administer prescribed medications and facilitate prescription renewals as directed
  • Perform general specimen collection duties and assist with office procedures/surgeries, adhering to safety precautions
  • Participate in disease management programs under supervision
  • Actively work to improve practice performance on Quality incentives

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Successful completion of an accredited/approved MA program and Externship/Internship, EMT program, Paramedic program, or Certified Athletic Trainer
  • Valid CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain accurate patient vital statistics and health history
  • Proficiency in medical terminology
  • Proficiency in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including EMR
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment
  • Ability to handle patient and organizational information confidentially

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED. Successful completion of accredited/approved MA program and MA Externship; MA Internship; Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program; Paramedic program; or Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. In absence of completed MA Program/Externship/Internship, must have 2+ years’ clinical experience providing clinical support in community-based clinic.

Nice to Have

  • 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent (preferred)
  • 2+ years’ clinical experience providing clinical support in community-based clinic (if no MA program completed)
  • MA eligible to attain Medical Assistant Certification is desired
  • Current MA Re-Certification CEUs (if credentialed)
