About This Role

This role involves performing patient care and observation duties under the direction of licensed providers in a General Surgery Clinic. The Medical Assistant will provide routine clinical functions and may also support administrative tasks to ensure smooth patient operations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned patient care and observation duties under the direction of a licensed provider, RN or LPN
  • Take vital signs and administer a limited profile of medications per Emory Clinic approved policy
  • Perform simple diagnostic tests and collect specimens
  • Draw blood, sterilize and clean equipment, and maintain examination rooms in an outpatient setting
  • Promote a supportive and healing environment to enhance customer and staff satisfaction
  • Assist in emergency situations as directed by a licensed provider, RN or LPN
  • Support patient and practice operations, including patient check-in/out and responding to patient requests
  • Reinforce patient and family education and manage visitor/telephone reception
  • Maintain patients' charts and records data, ensuring proper identification, documentation, routing, and confidentiality
  • Maintain a clean and healthy environment in compliance with Universal Precaution guidelines and safety standards
  • Order, verify, and store unit supplies
  • May participate in research projects impacting patient care areas

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant certification (NHA, NCCT, AAMA, or AMT)
  • Current BLS from the American Heart Association upon hire
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • One year work experience preferred

Nice to Have

  • Preferred certification is CMA or RMA
  • One year work experience
