The Medical Assistant I (MA) works within their scope of practice to provide direct patient care, including rooming patients, assisting with procedures, performing lab duties, and administering medications, while ensuring effective communication and a clean work environment.
Responsibilities
- Adhere to Medical Assistant scope of practice and follow all policies and procedures when providing patient care
- Perform rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings
- Assist provider with or perform procedures as ordered
- Perform lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking
- Complete Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing
- Administer medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration
- Perform other duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals
- Demonstrate effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation
- Maintain a clean work environment, ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately, stocked, and in working order
- Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program OR 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years OR structured military training clinical in nature (per DD214) in lieu of a formal medical assistant program or EMT
- Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification (AHA) within 45 days of hire OR current AHA BLS certification
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required, and completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent experience.

Nice to Have
- Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills within Medical Assistant scope of practice
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, Windows OS navigation, email, and exposure to electronic medical records systems
- Customer service skills for a positive patient experience
