Assist in the examination and treatment of patients by tracking information, documenting medical records, and performing in-office procedures. Administer medications and provide patient and caregiver education under the direction of healthcare providers.
Responsibilities
- Greet and escort patients to examination rooms, documenting reason for visit
- Perform initial response screening and obtain vital signs, accurately documenting in EMR
- Enter medication, laboratory, and radiology orders into EMR per guidelines
- Perform diagnostic tests as directed by healthcare provider; operate equipment for routine tests
- Track and inform patients of test results and communicate provider instructions
- Administer prescribed medications and facilitate prescription renewals
- Perform general specimen collection and assist with office procedures/surgeries
- Participate in disease management programs
- Provide patient/family education as directed by healthcare provider
- Take and relay accurate, comprehensive, dated and signed messages in a timely manner
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Successful completion of an accredited MA program, MA Externship, MA Internship, EMT program, Paramedic program, or Certified Athletic Trainer
- Demonstrated competency in obtaining accurate patient vital statistics and health history
- Proficient/knowledgeable in medical terminology
- Proficiency in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including electronic medical records
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED and successful completion of accredited/approved MA program and MA Externship, MA Internship, EMT program, Paramedic program, or Certified Athletic Trainer.
- 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred. In absence of completed MA Program/Externship/Internship, must have 2+ years’ clinical experience.
Nice to Have
- 0-1 year previous clinical experience or equivalent
- 2+ years clinical experience providing clinical support in community-based clinic (if no MA program completion)
