The Patient Support Technician assists Registered Nurses in meeting basic patient needs in a surgical specialty setting. This role focuses on direct patient care, including hygiene, nutrition, ambulation, and vital sign monitoring.
Responsibilities
- Assist patients with personal hygiene, including bathing, hair care, and hand washing
- Support patients with nutrition and feeding, including assisting with meals and drinks
- Aid patients with ambulation, including walking with or without assistive devices and implementing fall prevention measures
- Meet patients' elimination needs, including assisting with bathroom use and monitoring inputs and outputs
- Complete and document patient vital signs, reporting abnormal values to the registered nurse
Requirements
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course OR current/former South Carolina CNA certification OR current/former CMA certification
- Current CPR Heart Saver
Qualifications
- Completion of a Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Tech, Medical Assistant, or Nursing Fundamentals course. High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous nursing assistant, medical assistant, or related experience preferred. One year of hospital clerical experience preferred.

- Basic Life Support, Heart Saver certification or higher
