This Patient Care Technician role involves assisting and supporting Registered Nurses in direct and indirect patient care activities within the Cardiac Medicine unit, ensuring efficient operations and world-class care.
Responsibilities
- Assist with admission, transfer, and discharge processes for patients.
- Take and record vital signs, weight, height, and intake/output.
- Apply cardiac monitor/oximetry and obtain EKGs.
- Perform phlebotomy and capillary blood glucose for adults and neonates.
- Collect various specimens (urine, stool, blood, sputum).
- Respond to patient call lights promptly and distribute nourishments.
- Provide morning, evening, and peri-care, including newborn care (bath, dressing, feeding).
- Ambulant and position patients, assisting with pre- and post-operative care.
- Set up oxygen, suction, and other respiratory equipment.
- Maintain a safe and clean environment, including cleaning and stocking supplies.
- Transport patients, equipment, and supplies, and respond to emergency situations with basic life support.
Requirements
- CNA Certification or currently enrolled in School of Nursing who has successfully completed basic clinical rotations
- CPR recognition by the American Heart Association (BLS for Healthcare Providers)
- Minimum of 90% correct on annual mandatory Health and Safety Training quizzes
- Unit based recognition for Capillary Blood Glucose Monitoring
- High school diploma
Qualifications
- High school diploma required. One year of college or nursing education or equivalent experience preferred. Associates or Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Previous experience in a health care setting preferred.
