Patient Care Assistant

About This Role

This role assists with the delivery of direct, non-licensed patient care in a 6L Intensive Care unit, ensuring patient safety and comfort.

Responsibilities

• Complete cleaning tasks utilizing OSHA standards and perform maintenance/inventory of equipment
• Order and stock supplies to meet unit/department needs
• Document accurately and timely, and report unusual situations related to patient care to responsible personnel
• Assist patients with personal hygiene needs, activities of daily living, and comfort measures
• Safely assist in mobilizing, turning, and positioning patients using assistive devices and mechanical lifts
• Answer patient call lights independently and promptly, referring concerns to the RN or Nurse Manager
• Provide close observation and care for patients requiring 1:1 observation
• Maintain clinical skills necessary to perform duties and demonstrate competency with procedures based on unit population and age-specific needs
• Obtain and accurately document all required patient information, reporting changes and abnormal findings to the RN
• Perform unit-specific lab tests (Glucose, stool, emesis) and report findings to the RN

Requirements

• HS diploma or equivalent (GED)
• Completion of educational requirements for relevant training
• AHA CPR/BLS certification
