Patient Care Assistant

About This Role

This Patient Care Assistant position involves assisting patients with daily living tasks and monitoring their vital signs in the Hematology & Oncology Department at Massachusetts General Hospital. The role supports licensed personnel in providing essential care for patients with various cancers.

Responsibilities

• Perform vital signs, weights/heights, intakes, and outputs accurately and within established time frames
• Complete all documentation in the medical record as required
• Interact with patients and their families effectively
• Help patients with basic hygiene tasks including bathing, dressing, and eating
• Assist patients with using the toilet
• Help patients turn and reposition themselves in bed
• Assist patients in moving between the bed and a wheelchair
• Listen to patients' health concerns and report them to nurses

Requirements

• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions
• Knowledge of medical terminology
• Strong patient/customer service skills
• Ability to lift up to 35 pounds
• Proficient computer skills for electronic medical records

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred
• 1-2 years experience working in patient care/elder care preferred

Nice to Have

• 1-2 years experience in patient care/elder care
