About This Role

Manage a focused surgical program at Women's and Babies Hospital in Lancaster, PA, providing primary surgical assistance to surgeons and ensuring continuity of care by coordinating with physicians and the Surgical Specialty Supervisor.

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary surgical assistance to the surgeon during operative procedures by handling tissue, using instruments for wound exposure and hemostasis, suctioning, sponging, applying bovie, cutting and clipping tissue, and tying suture as directed by the surgeon.
  • Demonstrate expertise with laparoscopic equipment and techniques.
  • Work with the Surgical Specialty Supervisor and Perioperative Management Team to develop and establish focused surgical programs, including educational requirements, instrument and supply needs, staffing coordination, and process development.
  • Direct daily room activities in focused programs, collaborating with the Surgical Specialty Supervisor and physicians to maximize operational efficiency.
  • Establish rapport with physicians and provide accurate technical and operational recommendations.
  • Function as a patient, staff, and physician advocate, particularly within their program area.
  • Assure compliance with all LGH, Surgical Services department, and LHA policies and procedures.
  • Take corrective action to eliminate inter/intradepartmental problems and report issues beyond their scope to the Surgical Specialty Supervisor.
  • Utilize techniques of infection control and monitor personnel for compliance with aseptic techniques and safety standards.
  • Secure, set up, and prepare Operating Room equipment, instruments, and supplies, adjusting equipment to meet operative requirements.
  • Anticipate and supply the surgeon's needs for instruments, supplies, and equipment without diverting their attention from the operative field.
  • Identify emergency situations and respond calmly, recognizing surgical complications and anticipating corrective measures.
  • Care for contaminated instruments and supplies during and after surgical procedures using appropriate environmental control techniques.
  • Assure relief of personnel to facilitate education, unit maintenance, PI work, and special meetings.
  • Work with Educational Staff to ensure educational programs are developed and facilitated.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as required for the position.

Requirements

  • H.S. Diploma/GED
  • Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program
  • Graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assistant program
  • Five years of Operating Room experience
  • CPR Certification

Qualifications

  • H.S. Diploma/GED, Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program, Graduate from a CAAHEP-accredited surgical assistant program.
  • Five years of Operating Room experience.
