The Patient Care Assistant (PCA) in the Emergency Department assists registered nurses and healthcare providers with patient care activities, vital sign monitoring, specimen collection, and patient transportation to support emergency medicine operations.
Responsibilities
- Complete assigned patient care tasks
- Accurately collect, perform and document urine pregnancy tests and associated quality controls
- Perform one-to-one monitoring on restrained, suicidal, combative and other high-risk patients when requested by RN or physician
- Obtain vital signs and weights
- Collect, label, and accurately enter specimens obtained
- Lift, transfer, and transport patients
- Enter work orders in computer
- Stock supplies at bedside and put supplies away prior to leaving shift
- Document in the electronic medical record
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED
- Ability to read, write, and follow verbal or written instructions
- Electronic medical record competency
- Maintain CPR certification
- Work independently and professionally
- Treat customers and employees with respect
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
Nice to Have
- 12 lead ECG testing proficiency
- Phlebotomy skills
- Ortho-Glass skills
