This multi-functional role involves performing Unit Secretary duties and at least one other clinical support job, such as a Patient Care Technician or Certified Nursing Assistant, within orthopedic surgery. The individual will provide clerical and administrative services, manage supplies, and maintain a safe environment, while also performing basic nursing procedures and assisting with patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
Responsibilities
- Perform Unit Secretary duties including clerical and administrative services, monitoring, ordering, and stocking supplies, and maintaining a safe work environment
- Provide excellent customer service, responding to patients, family, and staff with kindness, courtesy, professionalism, and efficiency
- Participate in patient care rounding, including daily introductions to patient/families using AIDET
- Manage ordering, stocking, and inventory of equipment and supplies in collaboration with the nurse manager
- Perform general reception and clerical duties at the nurse’s station, including responding to patient calls via intercom or in person
- Provide administrative and clerical support for the unit, including data entry, meeting minutes, maintaining bulletin boards, and organizing downtime forms
- Coordinate the maintenance of a safe, clean, and functional physical environment in accordance with regulatory standards
- Perform duties as a Patient Care Technician, Nursing Specialty Technician, or Certified Nursing Assistant as per job functions
- Collect data related to patient status and perform basic nursing procedures under RN supervision
- Monitor, measure, and document patient responses, and perform/assist with treatments and procedures
Requirements
- CNA-certification
Qualifications
- Unit Secretary training program or on-the-job training. Completion of a nursing assistant, patient care tech or nursing fundamentals class preferred.
- No experience required; will accept 6 months of clerical or healthcare related experience or completion of nursing fundamentals course in lieu of US training
