Perform chemical, histochemical, or morphological analysis on specimens using laboratory instrumentation and microscopes according to Tidelands Health Lab policies and procedures. Ensure quality of results and determine validity of reportable results, acting as a resource person for physicians in laboratory testing.
Responsibilities
- Collect, process, and handle blood and/or other biological specimens according to established procedures; instruct patients in the proper collection of samples
- Perform a variety of clinical laboratory tests in the areas of hematology, microbiology, immunology, clinical chemistry, and urinalysis, as assigned
- Conduct quantitative and qualitative chemical analysis of body fluids such as blood, urine, and spinal fluid; perform blood counts using microscope
- Conduct blood tests for transfusion purposes; may draw blood from patient's finger, ear lobe, or vein observing principles of sepsis to obtain blood samples
- Develop and maintain cell/tissue cultures for testing purposes, as appropriate; isolate and identify specimens, using advanced laboratory techniques
- Perform quality control on test results, ensuring validity and accuracy
- Perform calibration and troubleshooting on testing systems and instruments to ensure adherence to established standards of accuracy
- Keep records and reports on results according to established procedures
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent and successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks and held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician)
- OR Certificate through the HHW/HEW Proficiency Examination as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist
- OR Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or other Science, plus a minimum of 12 months in an accredited MT program
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent and completion of a military medical laboratory procedures course of at least 50 weeks or Certificate through the HHW/HEW Proficiency Examination as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist or Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or other Science, plus a minimum of 12 months in an accredited MT program
- One year of experience in a hospital setting Preferred
