This role is responsible for the accurate and timely reporting of high complexity laboratory test results, ensuring quality control, and assisting in the training of new caregivers. The Medical Laboratory Scientist will perform pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, and instrument maintenance.
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate and timely reporting of high complexity laboratory test results with minimal supervision
- Conduct pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical duties including specimen evaluation, data analysis, and instrument maintenance and problem resolution
- Accurately follow procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analyses, and recording/reporting patient test results
- Conduct established quality control (QC) procedures on analytical equipment, reagents, media, and products with appropriate documentation
- Correlate clinical, clerical, and technical data, and review/evaluate test results for accuracy
- Recognize and resolve instrument errors or sample problems, initiating and documenting corrective action
- Take appropriate action on specimens with critical values and/or abnormal results
- Assist in the mentoring and training of new caregivers in the department
- Monitor the laboratory’s quality control functions by reviewing QC data and evaluating possible trends
- Assist in evaluating and documentation of technical personnel competency
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or foreign equivalent
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a laboratory department
- Skills and experience in accurate and timely reporting of patient results in pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical phases of specimen analysis
- Proficiency in Quality Assessment processes and continuous quality improvement
- Ability to perform Quality Control analysis, instrument troubleshooting and calibration
- Experience with phlebotomy and processing of specimens
- Proficiency with laboratory analyzers/instrumentation
- Experience with personal computer and associated peripheral computer equipment
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Physical, Biological, or Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, or foreign equivalent.
- 1 year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist in a laboratory department
