Provide high-quality and efficient clinical care to patients in a medical practice setting. This role involves administrative duties as well as direct patient support.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and cancel patient appointments
- Check-in and check-out patients
- Enter charges and process payments
- Answer telephones
- Verify patient insurance and demographics
- Collect co-payments, coinsurance, and personal balances
- Perform selected administrative duties and assist nursing staff
- Collect patient specimens
- Take patient histories and vital signs
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Give injections and apply casts, splints, and dressings as applicable
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Assist physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
- Coordinate continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities (for Patient Center Medical Home certified practices)
- Participate on a team for data collection, health outcomes reporting, audits, and programmatic evaluation (for Patient Center Medical Home certified practices)
Requirements
- One year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience
- Medical Assistant Certification OR ability to obtain within 60 days of employment for recent graduates OR ability to obtain within one year of hire date for experienced candidates
Qualifications
- One year of Medical Assisting or direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
