Provide high-quality and efficient patient care in a clinical setting by performing administrative and clinical duties. Support the nursing staff and assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.
Responsibilities
- Schedule and cancel patient appointments
- Check-in and check-out patients
- Enter charges and payments
- Answer telephones
- Verify patient insurance and demographics
- Collect co-payments, coinsurance, and personal balances
- Perform selected administrative duties and assist nursing staff
- Collect patient specimens
- Take patient histories and vital signs
- Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
- Give injections and apply casts, splints, and dressings as applicable
- Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
- Assist physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
- Coordinate continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities and referrals to specialty care providers
- Participate on a team for data collection, health outcomes reporting, audits, and programmatic evaluation related to Patient Centered Medical Home
Requirements
- 1 year of Medical Assisting or direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
- Medical Assistant Certification (RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA certification/ABR-OE credentials) OR recent graduation from a Medical Assisting program within 12 months (certification required within 60 days) OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience without certification (certification required within 1 year of hire date)
Qualifications
- 1 year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
