Medical Assistant

About This Role

Provide high-quality and efficient patient care in a clinical setting by performing administrative and clinical duties. Support the nursing staff and assist physicians in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals.

Responsibilities

• Schedule and cancel patient appointments
• Check-in and check-out patients
• Enter charges and payments
• Answer telephones
• Verify patient insurance and demographics
• Collect co-payments, coinsurance, and personal balances
• Perform selected administrative duties and assist nursing staff
• Collect patient specimens
• Take patient histories and vital signs
• Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments
• Give injections and apply casts, splints, and dressings as applicable
• Prepare and maintain supplies and equipment for treatments, including sterilization
• Assist physician in preparing for minor surgeries and physicals
• Coordinate continuity of patient care with external healthcare organizations and facilities and referrals to specialty care providers
• Participate on a team for data collection, health outcomes reporting, audits, and programmatic evaluation related to Patient Centered Medical Home

Requirements

• 1 year of Medical Assisting or direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
• Medical Assistant Certification (RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or NCRMA certification/ABR-OE credentials) OR recent graduation from a Medical Assisting program within 12 months (certification required within 60 days) OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience without certification (certification required within 1 year of hire date)

Qualifications

• 1 year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting
