About This Role

This role involves providing nursing care under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse or physician, adhering to established standards and policies. The LVN will perform patient care functions, administer medications, maintain equipment, and educate patients, contributing to the organization's mission and strategic plan.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care in accordance with the legal scope of practice and within established standards of care, policies and procedures.
• Uphold Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibility, and applicable state, federal, and local laws.
• Perform patient care functions, providing age-related needs of the patient as prescribed by physician/health care professionals.
• Assist medical personnel with special procedures, minor surgical procedures, and/or diagnostic exams.
• Assess and monitor patients' condition and notify physician/health care professional for disposition.
• Prepare and administer medications as directed by physician order following established protocols.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, identifying and arranging for equipment needing repair.
• Apply principles of aseptic technique and infection control as directed by the Infection Control Manual.
• Monitor patient flow and assign/direct other ancillary personnel as needed.
• Provide medical information and education to patients, following established protocols and guidelines.
• Document pertinent patient information, assessment, and nursing procedures following established protocols.
• Maintain patient confidentiality.
• Perform various patient care procedures including first aid, application of orthopedic devices, dressings, urinary catheterization, and other treatments.
• Initiate emergency procedures (including basic CPR) and provide emergency patient treatments.
• Monitor patient vital signs, observe machine monitors, and administer inhalation therapy.
• Participate in the development of nursing care plans.
• Prepare and position patients for procedures and physical examinations.
• Rinse, clean, and sterilize instruments and equipment, and arrange for their repair and maintenance.
• Maintain clean work area and monitor supply of oxygen and gas tanks.
• Complete laboratory, radiology requisitions, and specialized test forms, notifying appropriate personnel of abnormal results.
• Answer member inquiries and observe patient condition for reactions during and after procedures.
• Perform venipuncture and finger sticks to obtain blood samples, prepare specimens for lab analysis, and perform various routine diagnostic tests.
• Assist as a member of the surgical team, physicians with endotracheal intubations, and in obtaining tissue specimens and biopsies.
• Restrain or support patients during procedures and perform EKGs (electrocardiograms).
• Assist patients with ambulation and exercises, administering topical or aerosol medication as ordered.
• Transport patients, specimens, medical records, supplies, and equipment.
• Request charts/medical records, schedule and manage patient appointments, and check in patients/members.
• Screen patient calls, take messages for providers, and maintain department logs.
• Order medical supplies and equipment, receive, store, and distribute materials and supplies.
• Adjust work schedules and/or reassign personnel as directed, serving as a resource to coworkers.
• Participate in special projects and studies, demonstrating safety procedures.
• Coordinate and monitor activities within the module, function as team leader, and participate in department meetings.
• Train and orient new staff to equipment, general duties, and procedures.
• Maintain proficiency in clinical skills, answer call lights and telephones.
• Call in telephone prescriptions, following established protocols.
