About This Role

The Licensed Professional Geologist will join the Bureau of Waste Management to review permitting applications for various waste facilities and implement groundwater protection strategies in the Southcentral Region. This role involves monitoring groundwater and remedial activities, conducting field investigations, and preparing reports to ensure compliance and uphold environmental standards.

Responsibilities

  • Review permitting applications for hazardous, municipal, and residual waste disposal, processing, and treatment facilities
  • Implement a groundwater protection strategy at solid waste facilities in the Southcentral Region
  • Monitor groundwater surrounding permitted and unpermitted waste facilities
  • Monitor remedial activities at contaminated sites
  • Conduct field investigations and draft deficiency letters
  • Prepare reports highlighting data, conclusions, and recommendations regarding permit applications, contamination events, or spills
  • Serve as a witness in cases held before the Environmental Hearing Board, county, or Commonwealth courts when required

Requirements

  • Possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent
  • Possession of an active license as a professional geologist issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists
  • Possess and maintain a REAL ID or passport
