About This Role

This role involves supporting store management by supervising daily activities, ensuring overall performance, managing schedules, and developing operational plans while identifying training opportunities for the team.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Understand company strategy and communicate core values to foster teamwork
  • Monitor the competitive environment and inform the direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provide product feedback to the direct leader, including new item recommendations
  • Participate in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Communicate weekly information, team milestones, developments, and concerns
  • Ensure store personnel adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies
  • Ensure appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in the direct leader’s absence
  • Identify and rectify hazards, ensure proper ergonomics, and maintain store equipment
  • Maintain store cleanliness standards and proper store signage
  • Assist the direct leader with maintaining proper stock levels through appropriate product ordering
  • Merchandise product neatly to maximize sales
  • Ensure the quality and freshness of products and accuracy of product signage
  • Assist the direct leader with achieving the store payroll and total loss budget, inventory counts, and training new employees
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the team, escalating issues as necessary
  • Ensure direct reports complete assigned responsibilities to provide high customer service
  • Comply with all established company policies and procedures, upholding data security

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to provide and lead others to provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to develop rapport, trust, and open communication with direct reports
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals, guide employee performance, and evaluate performance
  • Ability to understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting, personnel costs, and expenses
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely and properly operate equipment, including electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, and cardboard baler
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task with attention to detail

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • A minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment; prior management experience preferred
