About This Role

As an Assistant Store Manager, you will supervise day-to-day store activities, ensuring overall performance and managing schedules for a thriving retail environment. This role involves developing operational plans and identifying training opportunities to foster team growth and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Monitor the competitive environment and inform the direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provide product feedback to the direct leader, including recommendations for new or discontinued items
  • Participate in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Ensure store personnel adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies
  • Ensure an appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in the direct leader’s absence
  • Identify and rectify hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics and maintaining store equipment
  • Maintain store cleanliness standards and proper store signage at all times

Requirements

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide and lead others to provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals, guide employee performance, and evaluate performance
  • Ability to understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting, personnel costs, and expenses
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely and properly operate equipment like electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, and cardboard baler
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task, following instructions and giving attention to detail
  • Meets state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment, prior management experience preferred
