This role involves assisting in the design, coordination, and observation of public infrastructure projects, ensuring they meet city policies and standards. It requires applying technical skills for surveying, data collection, plan design, and construction observation.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, coordination, and observation of public infrastructure projects
- Perform field surveys and data collection using electronic total station and GPS survey equipment
- Use CAD software to produce construction drawings, quantities, and cost estimates
- Assist in identifying right-of-way and/or easement acquisition needs and obtaining temporary rights-of-entry
- Assist with construction observation to ensure projects are built to approved plans and specifications
- Maintain complete construction project documentation, including daily progress reports and monthly estimates
- Communicate with the public, contractors, and city staff regarding project information and concerns
- Assist in coordinating projects and permits with various agencies
- Provide technical assistance regarding engineering standards, practices, and as-builts
- Remain current on all applicable specifications, regulations, and construction practices
Requirements
- Two-year technical degree in engineering technology or related field or equivalent experience
- Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain upon hire
- Ability to physically perform essential functions of the position
- Knowledge and understanding of applicable OSHA work safety standards
- Computer proficiency including experience with computer drafting, word processing, and spreadsheet applications
- Demonstrated cultural competence and comfort with supporting racial equity
- Experience with electronic total station and GPS survey instruments
- Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D
- Experience with GIS software and/or Cartegraph
- Experience with RT Vision (OneOffice) project documentation software
- Three years’ experience in municipal engineering or a construction related field
Qualifications
- Two-year technical degree in engineering technology or related field, may substitute equivalent years of experience
- 3+ years' experience in municipal engineering or a construction related field.
Nice to Have
- Additional MnDOT Certifications (e.g., ADA construction certification, construction site manager)
