This Dispatcher role serves as the initial point of contact for emergency calls, public inquiries, and medical personnel, requiring sound judgment and effective multitasking. The position is critical for coordinating emergency medical services and ensuring timely crew dispatch. The Dispatcher will prioritize calls, provide instructions, and maintain accurate records while adhering to confidentiality and legal standards.
Responsibilities
- Maintain readiness for all calls
- Answer phones clearly, determine needs, and take appropriate action
- Collect and prioritize medical information
- Dispatch crews and record times, mileage, and details
- Use Emergency Medical Dispatch Card Sets for case entry and instructions
- Maintain confidentiality of all information
- Accurately complete logs, forms, and CAD entries
- Read and interpret maps; provide accurate crew directions
- Monitor multiple radio sources and relay information accurately
- Achieve and maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch certification
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Current AHA/ARC CPR Certification
- Basic map-reading, math, computer, and communication skills
- Ability to process requests and interpret manuals/protocols
- Ability to effectively communicate directions/medical information to crews
- Strong decision-making and multitasking under emergency conditions
- Ability to manage emergent and non-emergent calls
- Ability to interact effectively with agencies and the public
- Ability to organize multiple tasks
- Must monitor multiple radio sources and accurately relay information
- Must achieve/maintain Emergency Medical Dispatch certification and be proficient with MPDS card sets
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Emergency Dispatcher experience preferred
Nice to Have
- Emergency Dispatcher experience
- NAEMD Certification
- Michigan EMT-Basic license or higher
- Familiarity with Genesee, Lapeer, Tri-County, and Bay County policies, protocols, and medical/public safety facilities
