This role serves as the primary security advisor for Dartmouth Health, promoting an environment defined by exceptional customer service, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The Director oversees system-wide safety and security programs to ensure the protection of employees, patients, and visitors. It also ensures compliance with OSHA and Joint Commission requirements, and maintains adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
Responsibilities
- Implement the overall Dartmouth Health System security strategy, policies, and standards to ensure the physical safety of all employees, patients, and visitors, and the protection of property and assets.
- Develop, enforce, and monitor security policies and procedures, ensuring integration across departments, and manage policies related to safety, parking, and transportation.
- Develop, monitor, and manage the departmental budget, ensuring fiscal accountability across all security operations.
- Design and deliver educational programs and communications to ensure staff are informed, trained, and equipped to address potential security issues effectively.
- Respond to and support safety and security incidents, investigate incidents across the system, and collaborate with HR on employee-related issues and misconduct.
- Conduct threat assessments involving violence or disruptive behavior and develop operational and management plans to mitigate identified risks.
- Lead and direct significant investigations and critical event responses in coordination with law enforcement and other external agencies.
- Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of security technologies and systems, including surveillance, access control, and communications platforms.
- Provide strategic input on security design and requirements for new construction, renovations, and technology integrations across the system.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections to identify, assess, and mitigate security vulnerabilities and compliance gaps.
- Serve as a liaison to federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies and participate in relevant advisory groups, committees, and professional associations.
- Oversee security compliance and performance, leading Dartmouth Health's Workplace Violence Prevention and AVADE training programs.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or closely related field
- 10 years of full-time experience in healthcare or corporate security, law enforcement or related fields
- 5 years in a senior leadership and management role
- Strong leadership and consensus building skills
- Customer-service mindset
- Operational problem solving and decision-making experience
- Calm under pressure
- Broad knowledge of law enforcement methods, tactics, and procedures in the management of security operations
- Excellent written, oral, and organizational skills
- Strong knowledge of Excel, Word, Power Point
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree with major course work in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Security, or a closely related field required. Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of full-time experience in healthcare or corporate security, law enforcement or related fields, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership and management role.
