Corrections Utility Plant Operator

About This Role

Supervise inmate work crews while operating and maintaining a utility plant, ensuring efficient operations of water tube boilers and auxiliary equipment within a correctional institution.

Responsibilities

• Supervise inmate work crews in the performance of assignments
• Maintain proper security and compliance with all policies, processes, and procedures
• Maintain efficient operations of three water tube boilers
• Utilize manual and automatic control operation systems for boilers
• Interpret meters and gauges for operational assessments
• Perform scheduled and non-routine maintenance on utility plant equipment
• Clean equipment and make minor repairs to ensure proper functionality
• Operate and maintain auxiliary equipment such as feedwater pumps, condensate pumps, and chemical feed pumps
• Test boiler water chemistry and the water softening system
• Maintain detailed logs surrounding testing and inventory of water treatment chemicals, reagents, and supplies

Requirements

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant
• Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA
• Ability to perform essential job functions
• Pass a background investigation and meet CJIS compliance requirements

Qualifications

• Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
