About This Role

The Commercial Contracts Manager will be responsible for managing all phases of the contract lifecycle for IT-related contracts within the University of Bristol. This role involves leading negotiations, providing expert commercial and contract advice, and ensuring value for money across approximately 200 contracts with an annual spend of £76m.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support all phases of the contract lifecycle, including service performance, compliance, risk management, and cost control.
  • Lead complex negotiations with supplier organizations to achieve IT services objectives and wider University goals.
  • Provide commercial and contract advice to stakeholders, including on contractual terms and conditions, and commercial impact of key clauses.
  • Draft Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and Management Information (MI) to ensure value for money across IT contracts.
  • Lead or support stakeholders on managing contract variations to ensure changes are tracked and approved appropriately.
  • Directly support IT Services in achieving savings targets and value for money objectives through effective contract management solutions.

Requirements

  • Experience of negotiation, including strategy and ability to influence stakeholders.
  • Confidence with a wide range of different contract documents.
  • Sound understanding of budgets and financial objectives as they relate to savings opportunities at contract level.
  • Experience of managing all phases of the contract lifecycle.
  • Experience in contract law, including confidence in clause drafting.
  • Experience in building relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and strong communication skills to positively challenge through to resolution.
