This role involves overseeing the daily operations of multiple non-perishable departments within a retail grocery store, focusing on sales, profitability, people development, and customer service excellence. The Assistant Store Manager will lead and mentor team members, ensure operational efficiency, and maintain compliance and safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the daily operations of Grocery, General Merchandise, Health & Beauty Care, Frozen, and Dairy departments
- Ensure departments meet or exceed sales and profit targets
- Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety, ensuring compliance with all regulations
- Direct, oversee, and evaluate the training of all non-perishable department team members
- Monitor and evaluate associate performance and ensure associates have development plans
- Foster a culture of diversity and inclusion and control turnover
- Manage labor relations, address employee issues, and resolve grievances
- Cultivate a culture of excellence in customer service
- Coach and provide feedback for efficient operations to better reduce and control costs
- Monitor inventory levels and ensure accurate stock management
Requirements
- 1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in retail grocery
- Knowledge of Grocery, General Merchandise, Health & Beauty Care, Frozen, and Dairy departments
- Highly motivated, results-oriented, and a self-starter
- Strong ability to influence and communicate effectively
- Excellent multitasking skills
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
- High level of customer service skills
- Creative and strategic thinking abilities
- Effective organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Retail Management, or related field (preferred) or equivalent years of work experience
- 1-3 years of supervisory or leadership experience, preferably in retail grocery with knowledge of specific departments
