About This Role

This Assistant Store Manager role is responsible for overseeing daily store operations, ensuring performance metrics are met, managing employee schedules, and identifying training needs to foster team development. You will help implement action plans to improve operating results and ensure high standards of customer service and store cleanliness.

Responsibilities

  • Assist direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Monitor the competitive environment and inform direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provide product feedback to the direct leader, including recommendations for new or discontinued items
  • Participate in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Communicate weekly information, team milestones, developments, and concerns
  • Ensure store personnel adhere to inventory procedures, product handling, and cash control policies
  • Ensure appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in direct leader's absence
  • Identify and rectify hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics and maintaining store equipment
  • Maintain store cleanliness standards and proper store signage
  • Assist direct leader with maintaining proper stock levels through appropriate product ordering
  • Merchandise product neatly to maximize sales
  • Ensure the quality and freshness of products for sale and accuracy of product signage
  • Supervise the day-to-day operations of the team, escalating issues as necessary

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to provide and lead others to provide prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals and guide employee performance
  • Ability to evaluate and drive performance of self and others
  • Ability to understand and apply management principles concerning budgeting, personnel costs, and expenses
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely and properly operate equipment, including electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, and cardboard baler
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task
  • Meets any state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages
  • Physically able to stock merchandise weighing up to 45 pounds

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment; prior management experience preferred
