About This Role

As an Assistant Store Manager, you will supervise day-to-day store activities, ensure overall store performance, manage schedules, and develop operational action plans. This role focuses on optimizing store operations and fostering team development.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the direct leader with developing and implementing action plans to improve operating results
  • Establish and communicate job responsibilities and performance expectations to direct reports
  • Identify training and development opportunities for direct reports
  • Understand, communicate, and model company strategy and core values to foster teamwork
  • Monitor the competitive environment and inform the direct leader of necessary adjustments
  • Provide product feedback, including recommendations for new or discontinued items
  • Participate in the interviewing process for store personnel
  • Ensure store personnel adhere to inventory procedures, product handling guidelines, and cash control policies
  • Ensure appropriate resolution of operational customer concerns in the direct leader’s absence
  • Identify and rectify hazards, ensuring proper ergonomics and maintaining store equipment
  • Maintain store cleanliness standards and proper store signage
  • Assist the direct leader with maintaining proper stock levels through appropriate product ordering
  • Merchandise product neatly to maximize sales

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years progressive retail experience
  • 18 years of age or older
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to provide and lead others in prompt and courteous customer service
  • Ability to interpret and apply company policies and procedures
  • Ability to establish goals and guide employee performance
  • Ability to evaluate and drive performance
  • Ability to understand and apply management principles
  • Ability to operate a cash register efficiently and accurately
  • Ability to safely and properly operate equipment including electric/manual hand jack, floor scrubber, cardboard baler
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to stay organized and multi-task
  • Meets state and local requirements for handling and selling alcoholic beverages

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in a retail environment; prior management experience preferred
