Youth Sports Official

About This Role

Officiate youth and adult sports programs for the YMCA, ensuring safety, enforcing rules, and promoting fair play to members and participants. This role is responsible for setting up and tearing down equipment and maintaining a clean gym area.

Responsibilities

• Monitor play to oversee the safety of players
• Ensure sports and YMCA rules are followed
• Prepare gym(s) for games with physical setting and equipment
• Set up and tear down all equipment needed for play prior to start time
• Communicate and enforce sports rules effectively while providing leadership during all games
• Maintain cleanliness of the gym area
• Build relationships with members and program participants
• Ensure safety by communicating and enforcing any rules, policies and guidelines at participants’ comprehension level
• Ensure safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition
• Track and post league standings
• Post schedules and events promptly prior to the league or event date
• Ensure all sports program information is communicated in writing to the Program Director, Membership Director, and Front Desk Staff in an accurate and timely manner
• Create new ways to promote sports through new corporate leagues, tournaments, camps, etc.
• Create an atmosphere that is based on fair play

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years of age

Qualifications

• Six months or more of related officiating experience preferred

Nice to Have

• High School diploma preferred
• Six months or more of related officiating experience preferred
