Outdoor Lifeguard

About This Role

Maintain safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas, responding to emergency situations according to YMCA policies. This role also assists with swim instruction as needed.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant observation of the pool area
• Communicate and enforce pool rules, policies, and guidelines
• Check for hazardous conditions and ensure safety equipment is in working condition
• Perform the duties of a Swim Instructor when required
• Respond to emergency situations including first aid or CPR
• Complete incident and accident reports as required
• Follow all aquatics employee rules, dress code, policies, and guidelines
• Maintain and record accurate records including pool chemical readings, first aid kit supplies, and pool equipment
• Maintain a clean environment by following and recording proper cleaning procedures
• Inspect pool and rescue equipment for safety hazards, damage, or wear
• Set up and store equipment and assist other employees with event set up
• Practice rescue and fitness drills regularly
• Promote aquatics and other YMCA programs
• Communicate any suggestions to improve the aquatics facility

Requirements

• Must be at least 15 years of age
• Ability to achieve certification for Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Lifeguard certification

Qualifications

• Minimum of six months or more of related lifesaving experience preferred.
