This role involves assisting in the planning and implementation of classroom activities for childcare, focusing on the social, physical, spiritual, and mental development of children. The primary responsibility is to ensure the safety and well-being of children in before and after-school programs.
Responsibilities
- Plan, develop and implement weekly lesson plans that fit the children’s needs, interests and developmental levels in the classroom
- Work cooperatively with Lead Teacher, Site Administrator, other staff and partners
- Document attendance, absenteeism, transitions, minor disciplines and incidents for each child in the classroom
- Manage and maintain appearance of classroom/designated program/outside areas, including quality of supplies, materials, and equipment
- Report broken or unsafe toys and properly disinfect toys and equipment regularly
- Conduct the program in accordance with Ohio Department of Job and Family Services (ODJFS) guidelines
- Communicate verbal and written reports to parents and conduct parent/teacher conferences
- Handle discipline promptly per policy, documenting and reporting special needs or problems
- Monitor and assist in maintaining the cleanliness of child care and program area
- Maintain appropriate adult/child ratio
- Attend parent events/family programs, scheduled staff meetings, and ongoing trainings
- Complete required documentation in accordance with NAEYC or NAA accreditation requirements
- Conduct all required screenings and assessments within required time frame
- Maintain appropriate records for Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) program
- Communicate concerns, needed repairs, or incidents to direct supervisor
- Drive a vehicle safely transporting up to 14 children and travel between locations for work-related purposes as needed
- Protect confidential information regarding program participants, families and staff members
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- High school diploma or GED
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Six months experience working in early childhood field strongly preferred.
Nice to Have
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited college or university
- Six months experience working in early childhood field
- Valid driver’s license, clean driving record, and completion of YMCA Driver Orientation (if performing driving responsibilities)
