Activity Leader

About This Role

This role involves planning and implementing engaging activities for teen programming during the summer, emphasizing positive decision-making and the YMCA's core values. The Activity Leader will act as a positive role model and foster participant interest.

Responsibilities

• Plan, develop, and implement weekday activities for program participants' needs and interests
• Demonstrate the characteristics of a positive role model
• Work cooperatively with branch staff to ensure quality programming and correct marketing of activities
• Accurately document and maintain daily record of attendance of participating children served and activities offered
• Build participant interest and forge relationships by offering activities and topics of interest to participants
• Conduct surveys of youth to assess participant satisfaction with guidance from the Branch Executive Director
• Coordinate contests to challenge youth to be successful in areas of interest
• Maintain the quality of supplies, materials, and equipment for the program through cleaning, organizing, and storing properly
• Effectively communicate verbal (and written if necessary) reports to parents
• Possess working knowledge of child abuse and neglect law and follow proper reporting procedures
• Leave all activity areas as clean, if not better, than when the activity began
• Communicate to direct supervisor any concerns or incidents that may need follow-up

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age
• Ability to pass a background check
• Ability to use kitchen equipment safely and according to manufacturer’s requirements
• Ability to assess the condition of food
• Ability to teach children
• Healthy nutrition knowledge

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate preferred
