Welder

About This Role

Lay out, fit, and weld metal components to assemble beds, frames, and small parts according to drawings and specifications. Monitor welding processes and evaluate weld quality to ensure conformance to standards.

Responsibilities

• Actively observe and promote BWise safety standards
• Analyze drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operation
• Lay out, position, align, and secure parts and assemblies using a variety of measuring tools
• Tack-weld or weld components and assemblies using welding equipment
• Monitor welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material
• Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisor
• Evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications
• Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances using appropriate measuring instruments
• Remove rough spots from work pieces, using portable grinder or hand file
• Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions
• Ignite torch and adjusts valves, amperage, or voltage to obtain desired flame or arc

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to read, write, count, and communicate
• High school, vocational-technology school, or trade school training/certification in welding or demonstrated ability from on-the-job training
• Understand fundamentals of metallurgy as they relate to welding
• Ability to read a tape measure
• Ability to read and fully comprehend work instructions, prints, and work specifications
