About This Role

The Coding Specialist performs medical record coding activities, assigning appropriate diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports with high accuracy. This role ensures accurate coding for reimbursement and works with medical staff to coordinate information.

Responsibilities

• Perform all medical record coding activities
• Assign appropriate diagnostic codes to patient charts and reports
• Abstract relevant clinical and demographic information to assign ICD-10 and CPT-4 codes
• Identify principal and secondary diagnoses in accordance with national standards
• Maintain 95% accuracy based on QA internal reviews
• Record all diagnostic procedures and assign appropriate procedure codes
• Request diagnoses from physicians when information is not recorded
• Determine and record required medical information
• Update coding procedures and guidelines
• Work with medical assistants and other staff in coordinating medical information and patient charts
